Amazing Grace

(Beginners can play "D" instead of "Bm")

D                          G           D
A- | mazing | Grace, how | sweet the | sound

                 Bm            A
That | saved a | wretch like | me |

    D                     G        D
I | once was | lost but | now am | found

      Bm          A       D
Was | blind but | now I | see |

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

  2. Thank you so much for doing this. I play violin once a month at church but the music is all contemporary. There’ve been many requests for hymns, but the Worship Director confided to me that he doesn’t know hymns, has never had contact with them or sung them in his life (he’s in his 20′s). So i asked if i could send him chorded hymns would he consider it? He said sure. But playing violin, i don’t know chords. In my search online for instructions on how to do this i came across your hymns. I have put them in my files and will send them on to our director.
    This fills about half the hymns i’ve put aside to Chord; this is a wonderful help to me. It will probably be awhile before i’ll need more.
    Thank you very much.
    Shirley

  3. Dear Shirley,

    Fire your Worship Director please.

    Thanks,
    Ricky

  4. Yes, hymns have doctrine and coherent thought as well as emotion. Hymns have been used of God to inspire countless Christians, musically and spiritually. Throwing away the tradition of hymns is criminal.
    But at least your director is willing to learn, Shirley. We all have to work with people who have strange values sometimes.

  5. Frankly, I love hymns. They do hold more than most people attribute to them, but I also feel that though you may have been joking, the comment about firing the worship director was a little cold and came off as judgmental. As odd as it may sound, those not growing up in a church setting don’t know hymns well and contemporary music is what they heard and came to associate with praise. I don’t say this to cut anyone down, but to encourage toward a unified body of Christ, one that edifies the body instead of one that divides.

  6. Thanks a lot for these chords. They’re very useful to praise and worship the Lord. God bless you.
    Regards and prayers,
    Prem

  7. May GOD bless you for your website…the young people in our church love hymns but since our hymnals is written for keyboardists they avoid them only because the guitarists don’t know how to read the chords within a piano score. Your website has saved me from the laborious process of transcribing all 600 hymns!! (PS As a church pianist I’d be happy to submit some hymn lyrics with chords I’ve figured out…just let me know)
    In CHRIST Alone,
